I'd come up with the original Tendrils demo in between tracking and overdubbing of the first record. Along with Forgotten, Ends in Themselves and Let Me In as "late bolters" I sent this here demo to producer Mike Feuerstack for him to run his ears over. We re-recorded it in Montreal, but in the end the album version is not so much different from this version, 90% of the lyrics are there, as are the use of acoustic and electric guitars playing almost twin parts, we just added Sebastian Chow's lovely violin.

I figured out quite early on that the lyrical sense of this one was about the subconscious, fighting to keep things down and the implication that if you let things bubble under without attention they'll eventually boil over. That sense of subconscious led me to try to keep as much of the lyrical content and song structure in place as possible, hence the guitar part utilizing lots of similar chords, but essentially never quite repeating, never quite falling into a 4 or 8 bar pattern...
